GEO-CACHING GAME IN THE HOMOKHÁTSÁG (SAND RIDGE) REGION


The Geo-caching Game is launched within the framework of the Homokhátság Special Target Programme of 2007

"Don't take away anything but your photos;
Don't leave there anything but your footprint;
Don't kill anything but your time!"

General information: The Geo-caching game started in the United States more than 7 years ago. Along with the development of the GPS more and more adventurous people have been getting involved in the game. Geo-caching is a nature-friendly game, while searching for the hidden box we can learn ever more and more about our environment - in this particular case you can learn about the Homokhátság region. The easiest way of access to the geographical position published by identifying its coordinates is provided by GPS devices. Nowadays the game is actively conducted in several countries all over the world. In Hungary the first box was put in place in June 2001. In 2006 the number of boxes in Hungary exceeded 1500.

Everybody who accepts the regulations, and considers the rules as binding on himself/herself is welcome to participate in the game.

The course of the game: The aim of the participant in the game is to find the "treasure-chests" (geo-boxes) hidden by the organisers. The coordinates of the first box is published on the website under the title "Homokhátság Village Tourism Information Portal". In this box the coordinates of the geographical position of the next box can be found. At the first venue each participant will be given an individual note-book for the game, called game-book. Participants must carry this game-book at all times when visiting the venues of the game. This document will play an important role at the end of the game. After having found in the geo-box the GPS-coordinates of the next venue, the participant must get into contact with the owner of the private accommodation facility or farm, so that the owner - by stamping and signing the participant's game-book - could certify the fact of the participant's visit at that particular venue.

Rules:

  • The geo-boxes must not be removed from their places. This is because the GPS-coordinates cannot be adjusted after the event. After having found the box you must put it back to its original position.
  • Those participating in the game should by all means get into contact with the owner of the private accommodation facility or farm, who will certify the visit in the game-book with his stamp and signature.

Duration of the game: The period from 1 August 2007 to 15 October 2007

Geo-box: waterproof box (of the shape of a barrel), in which the GPS-coordinates of the next venue are to be found.

Game-book: Format: format A5, paper note-book of 4 pages. Content:

  • place for the GPS coordinates of the venues
  • place for the stamp and the signature certifying that the visit has been accomplished

Venues: Geo-boxes have been placed at 10 venues, at 10 random points all across the Homokhátság region.
Search for the boxes at these venues can be carried out over the duration period of the game, on particular days of the week, as follows:

Venue No. 1. - Every day of the week
Venue No. 2. - Every day of the week
Venue No. 3. - Every Sunday
Venue No. 4. - Every Friday
Venue No. 5. - During the whole weekend
Venue No. 6. - During the whole weekend
Venue No. 7. - Every day of the week
Venue No. 8. - Every day of the week
Venue No. 9. - Every Saturday
Venue No. 10. - Every working day

Drawing of lots:

  • There is a locked ballot-box at the last venue (Venue No.10.). The participants should put their game-books - with the certification of the visits to all venues - into the ballot-box. The game-books which are not adequately completed, where stamps or signatures are lacking, will be disqualified and excluded from the drawing. 18 gifts will be awarded as prizes to some of the participants at the drawing ceremony of the Homokhátság Geo-caching Game. The total value of the gifts exceeds 280,000 HUF (approx. 1100 EURO).
  • It is envisaged that the drawing ceremony will be held by the end of the year, on the occasion of the 1-year anniversary of the website. The date of the drawing event will be published on the website, you can find it there from 1 October 2007.
  • The main prizes (tourism services) can be actually used during the tourism season of the year 2008, at a date mutually agreed with the owner of the relevant facility.
  • Some gifts will be granted in the style of a draw in a raffle: the baskets of gifts will be handed over right there at the drawing ceremony, the T-shirts will be sent by mail to the winners.

Prizes: I. - II. - III. Prize: accommodation for 3 days, 2 nights, 4 persons (2 breakfasts and 1 dinner at the accommodation facility, 1 dinner in a restaurant). The prizes also include further tourism services, e.g. horse show, horseback-riding, free tickets for the public bath, wine tasting.
The gifts can be different from those mentioned in this announcement!

Gifts drawn in a raffle:
I. - Baskets of gifts (5 baskets) with articles and products produced by the Farmers and handicraftsmen of the Homokhátság region
II. - Homokhátság Geo-caching T-shirt (10 pieces)

By participating in the game the participant automatically agrees to the following:

  • His/her personal data will be processed for the purposes of the game by the Kiskun Rural Development Association (hereinafter "organiser"), in accordance with the provisions of the Act on the protection of personal data and the publicity of the data of public interest.
  • The personal data of the participants will be treated confidentially by the organiser, the data will not be made available for third parties.
  • The organiser reserves the right to amend the conditions outlined in this regulation, or to amend, suspend or abolish the game itself.
  • The staff of the Kiskun Rural Development Association and the members of their families are not allowed to participate in the game.
  • No appeals are accepted concerning the final outcome of the game, no way of legal remedy is provided.
